I am starting a research on grid optimisation through reduced energy demand at residential level. Need some guidance in terms of practical information and methods to acheive it.
Theraal power-plants are mainly used as baseload powerplants, as are uneconomical to start stop and restart, and are having more running cost(due to fuel consumption) compare to solar and wind power plants, with almost same, the caculated life consuming cost or the fixed costs (on bases of 20 years life span on total investment per MW). Normally noon time the peak load time demand of power justify by full rating solar by keeping minimum possible base load power (thermal) the grid power optimization could be achieved....
Grids can be optimized by reducing reactive power flows in conductors. This does two advantageous things: 1) losses within the system will be minimized, 2) voltage drops in the conductors are reduced. Reducing reactive power flows can be achieved by locally injecting reactive power through i.e. power electronic converters or switched capacitors.
The traditional power grid is inadequate to overcome modern day challenges. As the modern era demands the traditional power grid to be more reliable, resilient, and cost-effective, the concept of smart grid evolves and various methods have been developed to overcome these demands which make the smart grid superior over the traditional power grid . Demand side management (DSM) is an essential component in energy management of the smart grid. Generally, DSM refers to manage the consumer’s energy usage in such a way to yield desired changes in load profile and facilitates the consumers by providing them incentives .
Traditional load on grid or you can say demand on grid have specific significance on optimization. But my research reveals that if you change loading pattern , may result in best optimization out put
My advice is to consider the benefits of investment deferral achieved by demand reduction. The challenge is to allocate the financial value to each demand reduction measure. In terms of optimisation problem set up, you could for example consider DG allocation problem in which investment deferral is an objective function. Good luck
