I am trying to generate a pearl-necklace like nanostructure within a cubic unit cell measuring 1 x 1 x 1 (mm). I have come across a paper titled [Simulation and Analysis of Mechanical Properties of
Silica Aerogels: From Rationalization to Prediction] by Hao et al (2018) and would like to reconstruct a similar 3D structure such as shown in the paper. I am currently using ANSYS design modeller/spaceclaim but don't know how to proceed other than generate a cubic unit cell without the pearl-necklace structure. Can anyone help?

I had a look at the same paper and upon understanding the concept got the interest to model the same for analysis purposes. I was not able to find as to how to model such a strand or layer of new material type. I am using ANSYS as well. Can anyone share some tips.
