Videos may help to promote learning in students with high visual orientation in their learning styles.
Video can also provide visually-compelling access to information for many learners with learning difficulties who might miss learning opportunities provided solely by print-based materials.
In this respect, videos provide important learning opportunities to students working in a second language
It’s authentic, and because it’s authentic, it’s motivating. It can be accessed from a range of devices. It’s a familiar medium which reflects how we are presented with information outside the classroom. It can provide a window into other people’s lives and cultures. Helping students realize they can understand video in English may encourage them to make this part of their routine at home. And finally, visual clues in video provide scaffolding for weaker students without reducing the challenge for stronger students.

In fact, it is nice to use video in the illustration inside the classroom, but for us we rarely use it due to the lack of stability of electricity in our region and therefore difficult to communicate in watching the video
I think that t depends on the course. I mostly teach courses in the practice of spiritual care and counseling. This type of course is generally amenable to using videos to provide case study material for discussing the use of a specific counseling model or inviting discussion about how to provide spiritual care to an individual or group of individuals. That being said, there are some courses I have taught which were less suitable for the use of video. As a result, I did not use video in these courses.
I often use videos for better understanding of students. It's a good medium what you want to deliver. My subjects are clinical so i use videos and it has more impact rather than just delivering the presentation. Students have very good feed back
Based on my specialty as mechanical engineer, I used to use videos in classroom (usually it is workshop) via data show, really this technique plays an extremely important role in education where all of us know very well that one image is equal in knowledge size of 1000 words.
It depends on the subject, In the natural hazards or disasters management, rather frequently. almost 20 % of the lecture is based on videos. While seldom in Fundamentals of Geophysics.
I rarely use videos in the classrooms because of the time limit. But I direct my students to the websites were they can watch good videos on a relevant subjects.
Dear Kirk, it depends on the character of the lecture. I teach Macedonian language and through my class i really do not see the need to use video. Maybe it would be good to use videos to show the students the incorrect pronunciation people make, but afraid of offending the people etc. When teaching syntax for example, it is all about predicates, subjects, sentences etc., thus do not have need of videos. I do not say that I can not use them, simply I do not practice them.
actually sometimes i use them, in order to clarify issues related to certain cases like mod of disease infection and somehow .... but i think it's extra instruments and not necessary for most lectures, also i prefer to explain ideas by my words.
The video is ideal to promote meaningful learning, especially in Medicine, both in the biomedical curriculum (scientific bases) and in the clinic (arts and crafts).
Therefore, I use it frequently, according to what merits the contents and examples to be developed in the classroom or in the clinical field.
It is a great resource. It depends on the subject. Some need to be long and some need to be very short. Say, in a language class, video should be very short. In other areas, videos have to cover all the subject in one single class. In some cases, it is really better to indicate when the video can be seen at home or in the library.
If the video is going to clarify a point then yes, but it has to be for a specific topic, not to distract the observer/listener and has to be short in duration, otherwise some will sleep through it.
Students will appreciate afterwards if the videos helped.
I tend to use videos sometimes when I found those that are congruent with my lessons. They are not easily available, and yet I don’t have a serious habit of usage for learning purposes.
