As a first-year student PhD student in Italy, I am interested in locating all collections of a particular taxon - potentially amphibians - only relative to Italy in museums, nationally and internationally. I would use these findings to implement a database of already-digitalised specimens found on GBIF, hence all of these would have to be georeferenced.

My question is if this would be a feasible activity for a PhD project to be finished in 3 years. Previous literature with Galliformes (doi:10.1371/ journal.pbio.1000385) has showed that this type of work can be extremely time-consuming, with many researchers required to work on it simultaneously to process the data. However, I could attempt to only limit my search to Italian museums and leave out international collections.

Thank you for your help and do not hesitate to ask for more details and clarifications.
