In my opinion, teaching with story books have a very positive impact on students language learning. It can make students, particularly children, highly motivated and also participate in the language learning process.

Story book is very useful from two hands, on one hand it develop the imagination and increase the vocabularies, idiom, and slang. On the other hands, it develops also the speaking skill because if you or your student asked to tell this story, you will try carefully and greatly to use new vocabularies.
Story books, I love stories from my childhood to till day, when I am an old woman; and I am always eager to read them. Stories help to enhance your reading, writing, comprehension and thinking abilities. Stories take you on the journey where you are not able to go otherwise! personal experience.
Storybooks have astonishing effects on language learning, the student find himself obligated to continuously update his language (vocabularies, proverbs, even grammar....) in order to follow the story events. An example about that is the spread of international stories.
An interesting experience about that, ten years before the introduction of the Titanic movie, I narrated the story of the Titanic in a class, results concerning language from students were really unpredictable.
Story books are very effective in developing learning in general; in the case of languages I think it is a great tool because it can capture the child's attention not only by history, by adding images, textures and the book is interactive; active diferents types of intelligence that can lead you to obtain better results and in lesser weather.
