Not very well. My copyright was breached, my data file was given to other researchers, I was not acknowledged even though I was the first to analyse certain data, and a journal editor knowingly allowed data to be reanalysed in a different paper even though he/she knew I had already published from it!

sorry to hear that, andrew. this sort of subterfuge has been kept well hidden, swept under the carpet, for too long.

i think that the explosion of priests and doctors being charged with sexual assault, and the lifting of the veil over research falsification are part of the same movement by people who are unwilling to tolerate this behaviour any longer.

the advice has always been "don't make waves, it'll hurt your career". that's only true as long as people will oblige. more people who have experienced this crushing blow from authority need to speak out.

In my country there are not institution to ensure that kind of things, good for you!

thank you bryan - why does there seem to be such a thick blanket protecting academics who have misbehaved? universities would have us believe that no one at their individual institutions has ever behaved badly, stolen research notes, lied on their vita. we aren't in the middle ages/early renaissance now, when having to present a united and blameless front was, perhaps, necessary in the face of various insults, religious and other.

bryan you plucked the words right out of my mind. i agree entirely. the odd scandal has made it into the press but there are undoubtedly many more. and when one's future depends on keeping quiet about observed fudgery, one keeps quiet. i speak from experience, tho not in the academic world.
