The challenge is to educate students to become responsible, thoughtful citizens, able to express themselves persuasively and in an informed way, and ready to stand up for change when they see the need.

- Encourage students to present their views and participate in class discussions.

- Share personal experiences and values.

- Arrange for group work at a distance site.

- Use cooperative learning groups.

- Ask students to relate what they are learning to something in real life.

- Help students set challenging goals for their own learning.
