Hello. I'm modelling pile group and pile raft in plaxis. I have got pile raft results fine but I'm facing problems in pile group as I need to ignore the interface between cap and soil. What should be the appropriate way of modelling it?

Nice to know that you got good results for piled raft foundation but you are facing problems in pile group mainly concerns on ignoring the interface between cap and soil. This can be done easily, you identify soil elements which are covering just below the pile group. Then, define the separate soil model for these elements by assuming the interface factor as 1. I suggest you to read PLAXIS manual for further details in this regard. ok all the best..

What are the dimensions you are adopting for pile raft and pile group?
Premalatha Krishnamurthy Dimensions are same for both i-e 240mm in length , 160mm in width, 30mm thickness of raft and cap
piles are 20mm in dia and 255mm in length
Abbas Khan you can follow the interface modelling for pile group interaction as per Karthigeyan . S advice. And for pile raft you need to consider raft-soil interaction, pile-soil interaction, pile-raft interaction, pile-pile interaction. The main benefit of pile raft is to reduce bending moment of raft. In addition to ignoring the interface properties; and in order to study the clear differences between the piled raft and pile groups; just make the raft and the piles elevated so as the raft doesn't rest on the soil. In this case; you will get 100% pile group foundations
