To become more efficient, I'd like to make a slurry of an AM polystyrene resin to dispense it into the wells of a parallel synthesizer with an Eppendorf pipette (instead of weighting in each one individually). I saw some guys from GSK doing that. Could you recommend the appropriate solvent as well as slurrying and dispensing procedure?
There are many ways to do this. Easier than a slurry however is to obtain several "scoops" which each have a different volume (ie, 0.1 cm3, 0.5 cm3, 1 cm3, etc...), or an adjustable scoop. Scoop your material and weigh it. If it is correct weight, use this scoop, otherwise adjust larger or smaller. Using a slurry of resin is best to put in beaker with rapid overhead stirring (which will not cruch resin). Cut off pipette tip (if necessary), and pipette in a well mixed sample. If it were a solid scaffold which does not dissolve, I would use round bottom flask and stir bar. Forget about solvent system which will make the resin "suspend"... simply make it suspend to deliver uniform amount.
Thanks a lot for the tip Thomas! I'm definitely going to try out the RBF / slurry one. Since I weigh in only 43 mg of resin per vial it could be difficult using the different scoops, although it's really handy for larger amounts. Thanks a lot for that too!
