Under some instances when a paper is submitted for publication, those are rejected by the editor in chief without sending it to reviewers. Many reasons are cited such as
* the paper does not fall within the scope
* the paper is not suited to an international readership
* the paper is only addressing a regional issue
* etc.
What I feel is that we have to send the paper to the journal which suits to our work. Selection of the proper journal that suits to our works is an uphill task. Are there any guidelines which authors should follow to select a Journal.

Journals are usually interested how the paper advances theory: if it does, it does not matter so much about which region you write. This means that you have to explain which research gap your paper fills and for that, you have to cite several recent papers (if possible, also some published in this journal).

I would say it is interesting to define which journal you want to publish your article before get it done, or think in some options at least. Then, you can write your paper based on a style of a journal, what I think is much easier than write a paper and just then decide which journal to publish in. this is because this way you will be writing in a way that the editors or reviewers judge as the good way for that journal. Also, I would say it is very important to think in how the paper must be written to not sound like a regional article.
Scope papers in journals and see what has already been published in your subject area. Also, review the references you have used in your paper and look at where they published.
On journal's home page overview is given. Look for your research area if its suits in that journal submit it. Agree with Tiia Vissak editor of journal are looking advancement in that particular research area.
Well, as it has been discussed in different other threads - it is the impact factor, the relevance of that journal to your discipline's work... and most importantly, either A*, A or B according to the latest lists of approved journals - !
First, if author rejects your work, it is not a thing to discourage. Perhaps most importantly the selection of a journal merely happens on the authors preference. What important is, we should not publish our work to a black listed journal. Selection of a good journal is fairly simple. Herewith i have attached the web of science listed journals. When you are publishing, make sure the journal that you have selected is also appears on the web of science index. If it appears which means you have selected a good journal which also have some kind of an impact. On the other hand, nowadays junior researchers tend to distribute their research work through open access journals. Search for that as well. Finally, when you are compiling a research paper, make sure you comply all the guidelines of the desired journal...
