I want to generate flood map for a freshwater seasonal wetland. The wetland is about 100sq.km in area and gets flooded during monsoon. A perennial river is the major water source. A number of small streams also contribute to flooding in the wetland.
What will be the best DEM and related satellite data for flood inundation mapping in such wetlands?

Only finer resolution is not sufficient to remove DEM errors and generate accurate flood maps. Available literatures show that water surface elevations and flood inundation area also affect flood map accuracy. Some researchers were able to get more accurate flood maps using coarser DEMs compared to the finer ones. The important factor here is DEM error. I wanted to know how these errors can be removed while using the finer DEM and what is the availale best practice in this regard.
The quality of DEM (derived from LIDAR or other topographic information) is usually lower in the wetlands, because of standing water, cattails or other vegetation. Therefore, ground truthing or ground surveying is required to define the topography of the wetland. The quality of the topography determines the quality of the hydraulic modeling and thus the delineation of flooded area.
