Thank you for your excellent review.   You cite an article which states that cord cutting was introduced in the 17th century to reduce blood spilling onto the bedclothes (Johnson and Taylor 2011)

Would you be so kind as to provide more from the citation about this fascinating subject?  Presumably the cord was separated from the placenta for convenience since the beginning of time.  How would cord clamping reduced blood spilling onto the bedclothes?  Thanks in advance.  JS Cohain
