Dear colleagues, it was a while since I studied organic chemistry and I just wanted to refresh my knowledge with you about how cholesterol binds other organic compounds. I understand that cholesterol, an important issue steroid, is a component in animal cell membranes and binds via hydrophobic interaction. The question is how cholesterol binds other organic compounds? only through the hydroxyl group at C-3 or are there other active groups? Could cholesterol bind other complex through hydrophic too?
