I am working on a flywheel energy storage system FESS that stores a small fraction of the energy in order to handle wind power fluctuations in grid-connected mode. My questions are:
1. Since the flywheel always rotate at high speeds, to store energy in the FW am I supposed to control the induction motor IM above its synchronous speed?
If yes:
2. How does the Induction machine operate as a motor (to store energy) at a speed above its synchronous speed?
3. The power that I am trying to store is variable (depending on the wind turbine generated active power and the power that need to be delivered to the grid). So using a field weakening strategy will not work. Since the power is maintained at its rated value.
Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
