Abaqus provides the option to define the mode mix ratio based on energy or traction. The traction-based mixed mode response ( Mode I/II problem) where pure Mode I and II traction separation relation is already defined in the input file. Is the Abaqus interpolates for the intermediate mode mix ratios?

In Abaqus, the traction-separation relation for mixed mode fracture is determined by interpolating between the pure mode I and pure mode II traction-separation relations based on the mode mix ratio.
When the mode mix ratio is defined based on energy, Abaqus calculates the mode mix ratio based on the ratio of the strain energy release rates of Mode I and Mode II fracture. Abaqus then interpolates between the pure mode I and pure mode II traction-separation relations based on the calculated mode mix ratio.
When the mode mix ratio is defined based on traction, Abaqus interpolates between the pure mode I and pure mode II traction-separation relations based on the specified mode mix ratio.
For example, if the mode mix ratio is defined as 0.5 based on traction, Abaqus will interpolate between the pure mode I and pure mode II traction-separation relations to calculate the traction-separation relation for a mixed mode fracture with a mode mix ratio of 0.5. The interpolation is typically done using linear or exponential functions.
