Hi, for the case of circular microphone array is there any advantages to using differential array processing over angular expansion methods (ie multipole expansion). I have read Benesty et al text book on "Design of a Circular Differential Microphone Arrays." in Chapter 8 they derived the circular differential array with the Jacobi-Anger expansion. Is this just a planar spherical array. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am a little confused by your answer. Are you saying by measuring the spatial coherency of the sound field, using multi pole expansion techniques the beamformer can then obtain a better SNR?
What do you mean in point 3. when source geometry is known (did you mean array geometry).
What is the primary limitation of differential microphone array processing?
Is there an advantage of using a DMA?
