It might be a detailed methodology section. I would suggest a structured description of the flowchart demonstrating your general approach and tools. If your work contains calculations: what formulae did you use, what algorithm supported your research, why did you choose this or that method, etc.

I agree with Jochen that one does not need to invent the wheel again and again and that similar papers can provide 'advice' of how to do it. Another important issue is to make sure that the theoretical framework and the empirical part fit nicely to each other. I real challenge is when there is a courageous theoretical frame, but the research in the field does just not relate to it.
