I am looking for a way for “automatically” linking a pit-tag detection with its GPS position. “Automatically” means that recording GPS position of the reader should be activated by the system each time a tag is detected (= in an unsupervised way). ID and date:time should be recorded too.
Note that GPS should be at the pit-tag reader and not at the pit-tag!
Is there any commercial device there?
Any home-made idea?

one solution is to synchronize time between your GPS and reader, and to have the GPS recording continuously the tracking path. When you export the data of your reader and GPS, you merge the two data files (GPS track and detections) by date/time. Maybe not the best solution, but it works fine! :)

This is a very inetresting paper, and not only from the methods side.
Yes, I am sure that your solution will work fine but I would like that fishers will do the job for me and so the protocol should be as simple as posible.
I have received plenty of info from Biomark (Thank you Armando! [email protected] ) and they have a comercial device. It looks very well but is expensive.

Biomarks HDR Plus portable PIT-tag readers has a built in GPS. Inaddition, there are a number of readers that output their data to periferals like a laptop,tablet etc. Many of these periferal devices either have a GPS or can be also hooked up to a GPS. Custom software can be written to combine the PIT-tag code with temporal and spacial data. If you don't know a company to get custom software you might contact Real Time Research in Oregon. They have written lots of custom software that incorporates PIT-tag data.
