I'm just wondering what impacts people's choice as to which portal they like to engage in.

I personally think stackexchange is

- More structured

- Each discipline has a different sub-network

- You need certain amount of engagement to gain enough reputation to upvote questions and influence things

- There is quality control in questions etc.
