You can record NIR on this compound and you'll get at a sharp peak at 4800 which is to the bound water.

1.Could you not submitt your organic compound to solid state 1H NMR?

2. Maybe FTIR /assoc. OH groups vibr. approx at 3420 cm-1 might do the same

service, especially if you compared hydrate and dehydrated compound spectra....

Thank you for the answer. Unfortunately 1H NMR is beyond our reach, but FTIR is manageable. We've got the anhydrous form, so I'll try to make the comparison.

Will the decomposition give the same type of compounds?

If not, you can connect your TG to an MS and identify evolved species

You could also look at subambient DSC as the freezing/melting of the bound water should behave distinctively
