I have recently got the 20 item Likert's-scale of the PACS (Olson) to measure communication between a parent and adolescent. I tried looking for ways to analyse the data but failed. Is there a scoring system to come to a conclusion if the communication is good or not? Currently it just says the higher the scores the better without cut-off points.

Thanks. As I am reading the article, I wonder what you mean by "good or bad communication". The variables seem to be continuous and can be used either as such or to map a family on the circumplex model. Maybe it would be interesting to elaborate more on what you have in mind as good or bad communication.

The scale is used to measure communication satisfaction among parents and their adolescents.
It is a Likert's scale (5 point). My worry is that the analysis done says the higher the score the better the communication. However, there are no cut off points to show if the communication is good/moderate/poor. Min score is 20 and Max is 100
Ie: a person who scores 80 points is better off than a person scoring 40 points. However- the score of 40 or 80 if it means poor or moderate communication- I have no idea.
In other words, I am curious about the cut-off points to categorise the scores into poor/moderate/good communication.

What you are looking for is a standardized measure in which there are already norm values to compare with individual values. Research tolls are rarely validated. What you could do is to have a big enough sample and then distinguish low, moderate and high values in your sample. Assuming that your sample is representative of something, such a distinction will make sense.
