I have read that modified dose response model is the best fit to column process.

However, I'm still struggling to use this model to fit my experimental data. Could anyone help me how to use this model? How we determine the Veff? Does Veff from multiplication of flowrate x time? Also, how to determine a and b then?

The model equation in the paper is one form of a non-linear logistic equation.
In the equation, Y stands for Ce/Co, where, Co is Influent metal concentration and Ce is effluent metal concentration. V stands for throughput volume which is the volume of sample used during the experiment. i.e. V= flow rate x time. If you have experimental data and if you are using excel, you can use excel solver tool to estimate model parameter a and b.

You can replace the enzyme kinetic model equation with a new model equation given in the paper to estimate a and b.
