A number of publications have addressed the question of clinical and public health impact of HIV/AIDS on a population. A good example (though somewhat dated at 2007) is the comprehensive report by public health authorities in New South Wales (Australia) "The impact of HIV/AIDS in NSW mortality, morbidity and economic impact" full text available at: http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/sexualhealth/Documents/ImpactStatement.pdf
An additional component of magnitude of HIV on a population is the direct and (more importantly) indirect economic burden. This is addressed nicely relavent to the European region in the recent review: "Economic impact of HIV/AIDS: a systematic review in five European countries" in Health Economics Review (2014) Vol 4 Number 15 full text at: http://www.healtheconomicsreview.com/content/4/1/15.
Hello all, thanks very much those are very helpful. I have never thought about the economic impact, that's a very interesting point to look at. My concern is rather about the magnitude on female partners of drug users, it's quite difficult to determine that because we don/t have specific and centralized data rather than some some scattered info. Thanks again.
