I'm trying to color the surface of my protein corresponding to just specific residues. My protein is large and has five subunits containing the same sequences for each. I want to color specific amino acids and have them be colored on a single subunit as a cartoon and the other four on the surface. I know how to color the cartoon, but I don't know the commands that apply to coloring the surface.

Hi, I came across your question and maybe you have found the solution. But here is my solution:
1. make a selection for the amino acid residues which you want to color green surface, make sure they are in the selection name sele (you can also rename the selection) and run the command: set surface_color, green, sele
2. make a selection for the amino acid residues which you want to color green surface, and copy them to a new object, show surface and change color to green for this new object
