I want to recognize the second phase particles in 6061 t6 aluminium alloy after friction stir welding.I have confusions which process will be helping me in this regard among TEM,SEM.Should I use XRD to recognise the precipiotation type.What are the precipitation of 6061 t6 aluminium alloy?

I think the best thing is to use XRD to detect the strengthening precipitates such as GP-I zones and GP-II zones ( beta''), beta', and beta-Mg2 Si.
According study performed by WH Jiang and R Kovacevic of RCAM, SM University, Texas, USA; During FSW, localized melting of the Al alloy in the nugget occurred, and molten Al alloy reacted strongly with steel piece spread through the nugget, which resulted in the formation of the Al-Fe intermetallic compounds , Al13 Fe4 and Al5 Fe2 as detected from XRD pattern, which also shows very sharp line from C, and alpha-Al, and alpha Fe peaks. They have also used EDAX which showed that many relatively coarse, dark pieces in the form of a short ribbon are spread through the nugget. EDAX demonstrated that these sheared-off pieces are mild steel. Proc.Instn Mech. Engrs Vol. 218 Part B: J. Engineering Manufacture, p. 1323 (2004).
