I need to loading negative charge to negative charge on nanoparticle of hexagonal boron nitride surface in a solution. There would used some compounds for example Triethanolamine or ethylene glicole but they were using on seramic-based nanoparticles. But hBN is conductive and dielectricity materials.
The way to do this by adsorption depends on the solvent you choose. If you want to disperse the boron nitride in water, then a simple approach is to stabilize it using anionic surfactants. Adsorption will be driven by van der Waals attraction and the counter-cations will be substantially dissociated. The magnitude of negative charge will be variable from zero to some maximum level, corresponding to surface saturation of surfactant. An approach similar to producing graphene oxide from graphite is given by Nazarov et al, Chem Asian J. 2012 Mar 5;7(3):554-60. doi: 10.1002/asia.201100710, and is workable for both water and DMF. In this case, the magnitude of the negative surface charge will be tunable by varying pH. Another approach using trialkoxy coupling agents is given by Joni et al, Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, Volume 388, Issues 1–3, 5 September 2011, Pages 49–58. In this case negative charge emanates from ionized SiOH groups, and will be strongly correlated with alkaline pH.
