I am writing my Master Thesis and I want to do an experiment where I add music to a movie clip and then show it to participants of the experiment to gather intel. How do I legally use the clips? Do I have to buy a specific copyright? What if the clips are shown in a classroom, do I still need the permission?
I would also like to attach the clips with the music to my thesis. How legal is that?

You should ask permission directly to the studio/publisher to use that clip as well as citing it would be enough considering the use of video that you are planning for.
To create citations for your video using APA style you need:
Author, director, username. (Year). Title of video: Subtitle [Video]. Website or Publisher's URL.
Attach your video as a supplementary file with your submission, it will be available online with your accepted article.
