After depositing the PVDF on gold coated silicon substrate, it tends to fold, I would like to find out how to promote adhesion between the PVDF and gold coated silicon substrate so that it sticks.
I think it depends on deposition method as mentioned by Mr Harb. If you spin coat it the spin solution residues or solvents might hamper adhesion. If you deposit it by polymerization reaction it might adhere better but you will get tension in the film when cooling down (the polymer has a much higher coefficient of expansion than Au coated Si substrate) and this might be the reason for film folding or buckling. From my experience these fluorized polymers stick much better to SiO2 coated Si wafers, But I don't know if you need the Au film? If you need to anneal the film to get e.g. the right piezo properties you can get the same problem, tension because of different coefficient of expansion. You could consider to use a substrate which has similar expansion coefficient but my guess is that intrinsic adhesion of these polymers on Au is not very good.
