It is easier to finalize a research topic if you follow these steps.
1- Choose the area of your interest in which you can perform better
2- Narrow down the area focusing on the a specific aspect
3- Highlight the problems in that particular area
4- Choose a problem that is very important and you want to solve it
5- Think of how you will solve the problem
6- Write a question about the problem and how you will solve it
7- Google your topic/question and find the research gap before you finalize the topic
8- Rephrase the topic and add some variable[s] that the topic has not yet been studied
9- Ask your research supervisor to help you polish the topic
10- Reading the papers in your area of interests can hep you decide the topic for research
My answer is similar to the one from Muhammad Amjad . Start by considering what topics in your graduate classes inserted you most. They read more research other scholars have conducted in those areas. Look for a "problem" or a question related to the topic which has not been fully answered, i.e., where more research would be beneficial. Then consider what research questions would be appropriate, and what data collection you could use to answer the questions.
A good investigation topic is interesting, relevant, feasible, and time-worthy. It may entail a significant amount of effort, so be prepared to devote the necessary time. That being said, researchable topics in sociolinguistics could center upon language variation, focusing on language users (e.g., gender, age, ethnicity) or language uses (e.g., style, functions, culture). The textbook by Meyerhoff et al. (2015) and the one by Mallinson et al. (2018) might help you get a solid grasp on researching sociolinguistics. Below are the references.

Sociolinguisics is your area. You have to choose now the angle of your enquiry. More importantly what intetests you is the core point.
Do you take a general aspect like politeness and see how it is manifest in different registets?
Would you like to look at pronouns of your language and see how different people use them differently?
What fascinates you will be the topic.
You need to choose an aspect that will give you sufficient investigation for your project which is also something that you will be happy to live with for the whole duration.
