I'm trying to get a good dispersion BiFeO3 in TPU using probe ultrasonication. I then take the mixture and try to get a good film using a doctor blade method. So far, I can't seem to get as good a dispersion of particles as I want and the films come out with a visibly uneven particle distribution. Is there a way to improve my outcomes?

  • I start by using probe ultrasonication to disperse the BiFeO3 in DMF.
  • Then, I mix them by stirring into TPU that's already been dissolved in DMF at a concentration of 5% (w/w) particles in polymer. The concentration of TPU before the addition of particles is 10% (w/v).
  • I use probe ultrasonication on this final mixture as well.
  • The particles were synthesized using a mechanothermal method. Milling the precursor oxides before calcining the resulting powder.

This is what I'm doing currently. Some particles still settle at the bottom.
