I want to determine the electrical conductivity of some soil samples. I mixed 15 g soil in 75 ml water and shake for one hour followed by 30-min settling time. The electrical conductivity of the solution above the settled soil was read by the EC meter. How do I calculate the electrical conductivity of the soil water (ECw, dS m-1). Is this just the value obtained with the conductivity meter?

No. Since it was a sandy soil, you may presume that Little salt is adsorbed to clay particles and therefore if you know the water content of the soil the time you took the sample you can backcalculate the concentration in the soil Water at that time.

I also agree with Haleem and Zenon. Please chek my profile also, since I've published 2 papers on 1:5 method for determination of soil salinity. Texture and gypsum have strong effects on the conversion factors.
