Well I think you have to see : Radar Handbook , M. Skolnik and Radar technology encyclopedia , David K. Barton - the first talking about exactely your carrier frequency ( 20 MHz ) and the second talking about a little bit more but BW more than ( 25 % ) !

If this not sufficient for you , you have to determine what the type of your signal , because SAW filers are uniques for each type of signals , and to see more references listed in the mentioned books !

I am not sure what exactly means "SAW receiver". If it is SAW filter, well, it is possible, but your filter will be large. You need 4 pairs of fingers on 128°LiNbO3 substrate and external matching inductance(s). For détails see any manual:  e.g. books by

D. Morgan,  or C. Campbell, or K. Hashimoto.

In practice You will have loss level of around 8dB to 12dB .

I need to detect a surface acoustic wave generated on the lithium niobate substrate with the SAW IDT, hence I referred it as a SAW receiver.

Regarding the design of such a device, is it sufficient enough to design the width of the IDT to be equal to wavelength/4 (50 micrometre) at the centre frequency (20MHz), with four pair of fingers?

The centre frequency of 20MHz means that f=v/P=20MHz, where v is the propagation velocity of surface wave, P is period of SAW device.

What do you mean under "to detect"?  SAW is generated by the IDT and, then, what exacly you whant to do with it?

SAW in my case is not generated using an IDT , instead it is optically generated. I want to use IDT to detect such an optically induced SAW.

Is it possible to derive the "acoustic-to-electric" transfer function from the  S parameters of the two port SAW delay line. In this way, I am trying to predict the input acoustic wave to the IDT from the measured output electrical voltage.
