What are the parameters to be noted down while analyzing a microstructure of Al 6061 alloy ? The few parameters may be as follows -
1) Grain size
2) Grain Size roundness
3) Types of precipitates
4) Precipitate Disribution, Number and Spacing
5) Homogenised or Not?
6) Chemistry

During the characterisation, the key is grain size if you are doing any mechanical deformation. Further, if any heat treatment, always check for the alloy composition which may get affected, if the furnace has any gas, such as nitrogen!
Grain size roundness and all, are you talking about the shape? I don't think, this is needed, if you have any texture etc.., then you may check the orientation of the grains which will be useful to explain the physics of mechanical deformation or heat treatment process etc..

Another factor might be the coherency between the precipitate and the matrix...This is known to be important, for instance, in Al-Cu alloys.
