I am working on arsenic removal using surfactant modification on to silicates. For this, i am trying the one in literature before my actual works but i fail to see good results.
eg. i tried using hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide.
may be i fail on washing it after modification?

What silicates are you using?
To remove arsenate you need cationic charge. When washing the silicates modified by cationic surfactant you will wash away surfactants bound by hydrophobic interaction to a first surfactant layer equalizing the surface charge of silicates. The resulting modified silicates may be used to remove hydrophobic compounds but not to remove well soluble anions.
