Corona virus pandemic may increase over utilization of water due to the requirement for frequent sanitation but will diminish the care we will give to the soil and vegetation.
I think as we sit looked in our homes, the water we use to clean our clothes and cars will be less too. We are having rains in Ethiopia now and water harvesting from watersheds and roofs can help us to get more water for the dry season. By keeping our social distancing, our work in the field should continue. We should not die from hunger while running away from corona.
The lockdown in my area enable most people to go to the farm instead of staying idle at home. This no doubt will bring bumper harvest and less dependence on imported food.
With less personnel available, probably due to social distancing measures and different levels of implementation of quarantine measures, the immediate effect could be a more challenging management of resources. Focus on management of resources rather than on use of resources by the population. Access to clean water might prove critical for effective prevention. Certain communities at are clear disadvantage. Determinants of health, both social and moral (as recently suggested in a JAMA publications), will play a significant role on the outcomes.
