There are of course a lot of publications about social desirability, how to assess it, how to bypass it and by what it is caused (self-deceptive enhancement/

impression management). However, I have not found any empirical results on HOW OFTEN it occurs.

Surely, one might answer "It depends on the topic" as it is often the case in science. Okay then. Let's take an every-day topic: Sexuality. How often do men lie about the number of their sexual partners (increasing the number) and how often do women lie about the number of their sexual partners (decreasing it)?

[I don't want to be sexist. It is only an example. I chose it, because it is a quite common and not very specialized topic. If you have a different example with empirical data, this would be great as well.]

I would be glad, if you can can give me a hint where to search for answers. Maybe I have just the wrong keywords on my mind
