I used Eigensolver to obtain a dispersion diagram of an EBG ground plane and came out with the EBG at about 1~3GHz. But I want to confirm whether it is an AMC ground with high enough Permeability for antenna miniaturization design or not. Is AMC supposed to have Permittivity = 1? With HFSS, how can I verify both parameters?
Indeed, that tut_3.htm doesn't mention the extraction method of permittivity and permeability after the creation of the dispersion diagram. Is there something I can do further from the results ?
Hi, I don't know what EBG stands for, but you can find several articles dealing with epsilon / mu retrieval from S parameters. see for example "Robust method to retrieve the constitutive effective parameters of metamaterials", PHYSICAL REVIEW E 70, 016608 (2004) http://journals.aps.org/pre/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevE.70.016608

From my understanding: no, the methods I found first compute the index and electrical length. Another interesting paper, available from IEEE Xplore is : "A Unique Extraction of Metamaterial Parameters Based on Kramers–Kronig Relationship". The authors provide their matlab tool online.
