I have deposited the SAM layer on 5 MHz Gold surface using mixed thiols(1:10 MUA and MH).I have been trying to clean the surface using piranha etching and mechanical remoal using 0.05 micrometer alumina powder and further cleaning with millipore water and N2 gas.The frequency response is not similar to the new crystal's response.Is there is any other effective methods of cleaning for reusing the Au crystals?
Dear Amrutha, I think it is easier to etch the crystals (probably Quartz), and coat a new gold contact on then - we did that several times in the past. The gold layer thickness should not exceed 100 nm or so, they should simply have a good conductance and be homogeneous on the substrate. You can either use sputtering or evaporation, both should work! Good luck, Dirk
