I've never heard of Panel - based learning before. Thank you for the question.

In a so called PANEL-based learning which appear to be a kind of collaborative learning, the students of the class are divided into four or five groups (Panels) with almost 6 members, varying between 4 to 6 members depends on the number of students. Each group is released with a subordinated taught topic. They discuss what they have learnt from past sessions. At last, each group would publicly report the outcome by the circulatory coordinator and ultimately all students would involve in topics and outcomes of other groups as well as their own and accommodate in the process of learning. Throughout this process, the teacher plays only the role of a director by calling at each groups and giving clues and making certain that they are in a right direction. In fact, the key role is incumbent upon students. This process enhances all students’ learning performance and their general achievements.

Hi, your question is a very contingent issue, in fact i have a "theory" that involves some correlated aspects of generational matters; with the evolution of the digital native generation the traditional way to learn or aproach to learning is very unspecified or better say very liquid; they're living in a world that gives to them a lot and simultaneus experiences and informational oportunities which are so fast and so changing, then the time to learn deeply has been shrinked.

I work in DuocUC (Chile) we have an educational model which use a similar panel method in all the courses and subjects the traditional teacher role is moving to a facilitator role where is the student who have all the protagonism in the construction of him habilities, knowledge and achievements and my conclution is what this way needs to be more acuracy but i believe is very usefull to the technical careers.

May be is similar to Learning Based Problems (PBL) and Learning based Proyects (PBP). Both methods impact collaborative learning.

Academically speaking, this approach is referred to as Cooperative Language Learning (CLL) which in fact is a learner-centered and group (Panel)-based approach to learning and is seen as an extension of the principles of Communicative Teaching. For further study, the book written by Richards et al. (2001) is suggested.

For what ever meaning attached to Panel- learning, it could be collaborative. link it to computer-based skills and learner will be actively engaged

This method is similar to the Jigsaw method of grouping students used in problem-based learning model called Schools for Thought. I have used the Jigsaw method of groups with shared responsibilities and collaboratively built projects many times. It supports the definition and assessment of the individual's role in the group and the development of cognitive processes and knowledge including communication skills, problem-solving, critical and evaluative thinking.

I am inclined to agree with most, of not all, of the comments presented around this issue.In fact, some of the very matters that you have raised are those that I have in mind.

Biggs and Tang's (2011) constructive alignment (CA) helps learners to be actively involved in constructing knowledge and negotiating meaning during task completion, In fact, their book presents a wide range of tasks and activities to actively engage learners, as they develop creative, critical and complex cognitive skills.

I have this book, and I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about improving student learning outcomes, in whatever area or discipline. Here is a link to the pdf copy of the 3rd edition. The one I have cited is the 4th edition, the latest one out:

They also speak of problem-based learning (PBL), mentioned by some of my colleagues in this thread, which is very useful and does aid collaborative learning.

One of my special areas of focus is collaborative learning. I have carried out empirical studies and the results have been very encouraging.

I am from Yale-NUS College in Singapore, and we have a module on Quantitative Reasoning running off using TBL. Duke-NUS Graduate School of Medicine, and the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine are using this method of instructions too. The Junior Colleges and Secondary Schools are picking up on it, so does the Polytechnics.

Learning in community development aims at change of behavior in the both the and the teacher and the learners. This largely depends on many methods of interactive teaching and learning based on experiential learning rooted in the discipline and principles of adult education. The personal style of the teacher/trainer has a very important role in the interaction.

It is important to distinguish between adult learning from mature audiences and learning from young adults. There are many different considerations. I really like the work of Marc Prensky and the difference he points out between what he calls "Digital Natives" and "Digital Immigrants". Yes PBL is really helpful for active learning. Again for language learners I strongly believe in experiential learning or learning by doing. For the same we must need motivation to become an active learner. Small group activities can encourage the passive learner to become an active learner as they can increase the interest of the learners in that particular unit or point.
