We all know different methods are adopted for making herbarium for plants, fungi, algae, bryophytes etc. It is also known that flowers and fruits are usually crucial for identification. But what about bamboo? How do we make herbarium for bamboo species and what are the important parts to be preserved since flowering is rare event?

Bract is the part more important. The bract is unique for each specie.

Though flowering is rare, If you look ay mature uncut bamboo bushed, it is not difficult yo find inflorescence.
Though flowers and fruits are surely crucial for identification, in plants like bamboos, Palms etc, a lot many other vegetative characters make equally good tool. Clum shape, size, sheath etc help in bamboos.

An illustrated guide was presented in this article, showing which parts, especially vegetative, should be collected for a proper herbarium specimens.
