AWHC alteration is a tedious thing in pot culture experiment. the tensiometer have to be installed in each pot, so as a water tube to maintain the % WHC.
The AWHC based soil moisture study can be done by gravimetric method. But, it is a huge work. It took much time. If it is automated or semi-automated weighing you can easily irrigate differently.
The tensiometers are a good option. It needs more numbers.

or try it with water holding capacity curve in lab (do it by taking soil sample and measure the moisture content for every 24h, 28h, 30h etc..). The slope of the curve may gives the rate of change of water holding capacity when the action of absorbing changes.
