I am probably speaking out of context, but one benefit of knowledge spirals, if I infer meaning correctly, is to focus people on continuous improvement, which is psychologically valuable. A problem with other frmeworks for knowledge such as standards or discrete skills to be passed or not is that knowledge is seen as right/wrong at a superficial level rath3r than a continuum of complexity. Knowledge spirals avoid this error. A common misreading of assessment is for people to say to themselves 'I can't do that' when they make a mistake. Knowledge spirals help avoid this misperception by encouraging the mindset that I can't do that YET. But I can do this bit now.' hence supporting a growth mindset and sense of self efficacy.

Your  conceptual analysis is confused. Curiosity and self-improvement are different motives.  You won't get anywhere untul you nail down your terminology

I think, the problem definition as highlighting knowledge spirals as a means to develop motivation is uncertain, namely

- rational or emotional motivation?

          - maybe the creative space has to be used to develop emotional motivation because knowledge spirals do not include any constituent emotions (individual, team/group, department, and organization)

Thanks to everyone for their answers and knowledge support. I have focused on performance improvement in the workplace. I will look at Targeted Knowledge Creation Theory (TKC) since I am not familiar with this theory - thanks Igor. I composed a theoretical/conceptual model for my article taking a multidisciplinary approach. This article has been revised and edited and will be published in June or July of this year. I will attached the abstract below along with the conceptual model, but at this time I cannot attach the article until after it is published.  Thanks for everyones comments.

Abstract: Many new research advancements have been gained in fields other than the basic social sciences. Some of these advancements come from multidiscipline studies that merge social sciences with theories from other fields of studies. This article takes a multidisciplinary approach to juxtapose some of the more recent findings from other disciplines to develop a general model for improving performance. The proposed model utilizes social theory from sociology and community studies, knowledge spirals from the knowledge management discipline, motivation theories derived in part from evolutionary biology, and research on engagement from different fields of study within the social sciences. By incorporating a multidisciplinary theory for performance improvement, the authors are adhering to recommendations from researchers calling for alternative paradigms to be utilized, providing a more holistic understanding of the phenomena being studied (Storberg-Walker, 2007; Torraco, 2004).
