In music psychology and music education the "teaching collocations" means:
to use the spontaneous ellements of the people soul - \coutious and uncoutios\ during music acivities - creation music; music performance and music perception and cognition.
This is an interesting topic. Child language acquisition is a good source in understanding the value of teaching collocations. Anne Peters addressed this in 1983 (see her book: The Units of Language Acquisition- Cambridge University Press). She found that while some children acquired language one word at a time, others acquired it one chunk at a time, i.e. in short phrases. Typical learners (those without language disabilities), were successful in their acquisition using either type of beginning. The value of collocations is that is allows for prediction of what comes next and so is cognitively less taxing while learners sound more 'sophisticated' and knowledgeable in the target language. It promotes communication. English is replete with idioms and learning them from the very beginning facilitates comprehension and expression. In the classroom, language learning should replicate language acquisition. Learners should be exposed to All aspects of a language, just as in the natural milieu where the target language is used. Our brains operate in circuits so that language learning step by step is contradictory and unnatural compared to how the learners acquired their first language. The human brain (or any other mammalia brain) is not composed of step-ladders.

Teaching Collocations can be defined as the teaching of words that co-occur naturally in daily used language or teaching words which appear in chunks and have a particular meaning in the way they are grouped.
