When the cytotoxicity of a certain compound measured against both cancer and normal cells, depending on the difference between the growth inhibition of each cells type how can we decide whether the tested compound is acting as anticancer or not ?
You may calculate SI ( Selectivity Index ) value for your compounds. If this value is high then your compound is acting as an anticancer.
SI= IC50 of cancer cell line / IC50 of normal cell line.
The greater the SI value is, the more selective it is. An SI value less than 2 indicates general toxicity of the pure compound.
