Hi,
If we assume 'Ce' as the operational cost of an Energy Storage System (ESS) (in $/MWh), which of the following formulae can be correct for the calculation of its hourly operation cost by taking into account of charging and discharging times?
1) Ce * (Pch+Pdch)
2) Ce * Pdch
3) Ce * Pch
4) Ce1*Pch + Ce2*Pdch
P.S. : Pch=charging power (MW) , Pdch=discharging power (MW)
Meanwhile, Pch and Pdch can not be nonzero simultaneously.
Any idea would be appreciated.

I think the Option No.4, have better representation of the idea,because you would be able to consider different weighting or cost coefficients for charging and discharging in the same time.

From the viewpoint of the ESS owner, charging state imposes an extra cost on him while a revenue can be welcomed by discharging state. Hence, from an economic point of view, it seems there is an inverse behavior between the first and second terms.
Am I right?

I agree with Pan sir!option 4 can be modified that is also correct since charging and discharging cannot be at the same time!

But, how would you treat the coefficients for charging and discharging? are they going to carry the same weighting or they would be different?
However, you can consider the flexible option by introducing the different weightings based on the time of charging/discharging during a day or a season?
Even, you can go further and introduce different weightings based on, how many consecutive hours they will be charged or discharged.
What's your idea?

ya! based on flexible charging pattern , weightings can be varied. Hours of charging/discharging depends on commercially availability of parking lots/charging stations.

Option number 4 is the closest to the real thing, but they can be simultaneously zero and non-zero depending on the storage technology that you are using., as some ESS can charge and discharge at the same time. Also you have to take into account the idle time. Depending on the revenue generation model of the storage technology the operating cost will defer. There should be Ce1*Pch + Ce2*Pdch + Ce3I (I = idle).
