If visual data is collected as part of interviews, how should the visual data be analysed and presented/ integrated in a PhD dissertation? The visual data includes samples of designs/ design process from designers who are being interviewed about their design process. Any guidelines / suggestions ?
The photographs of the designs or the scanned copies of illustrations could be used, in my opinion.

It depends what kind of analysis you are doing on the verbal discourse. If you are doing a very detailed conversation analytic style of analysis you might consider looking at how the participants themselves refer to the visual material. Look at the way the visual is indexically linked with the verbal utterances. If you are doing a higher level thematic style of analysis and just want to compare what is said to the design documents produced, you could do qualitative content analysis on the visual materials. Then you would compare the themes that you identify in the designs to those in the interviews. There is a very wide range of methodological literature on both styles of analysis so it really depends on what kind of analysis you are intending to do and what your research questions require.
