This may not classify as "recent", however, is an excellent article related to creating an environment that improves creativity in these three arenas by creating a "hothouse". Kunstler studied highly creative societies and developed his theorized list of criteria for them. Were an institution of higher education to implement these it would triangulate instruction, research, and service by design (I would do so if I were in an administrative position as was able in my area of influence).
