How can the statistics of the delay spread parameters and the coherence bandwidth affect the design of error correction code?

when designing an error correction codes, what are the parameters that matter: the delay spread parameters, the coherence bandwidth ?

In multipath fading channel, delay spread is inversely related to coherence bandwidth.

Over the coherence bandwidth fading is flat if channel bandwidth is less than coherence bandwidth. Effect on FEC design is less.

If channel bandwidth is more than coherence bandwidth, selective fading occurs and hence FEC design has to handle it.

The above does not include Doppler spread.
