In the attached circuit diagram Relay 1 is always energized. Relay 2 will be energize only if somebody presses either of the switches but with relay chattering relay 2 got energized without pressing the push buttons and started the pump.
question is how relay 2 got energized as there is no path for the current flow other than switches.
can you explain more ? Which Relay is chattering ? Do you have a situation where Relay 2 is active but shouldn't ? Let me know
I'm not understanding the role of relay 1. I assume the upper diagram is showing the sensing side of both relays, and that the lower diagram only represents the output contacts of relay 2? So, why not remove relay 1?
On the other hand, if relay 1 has anything to do with the 440 VAC contacts of the lower diagram, and relay 1 is always energized, then the behavior of those 440 VAC contacts will depend on how those 440 VAC contacts are meant to be controlled. The "chattering" could be caused those 440 VAC contacts being commanded closed by one sensing circuit and open by the other, but honestly, that's a wild guess. You need to explain what controls the 440 VAC contacts.
The push button you used must be normally open. check whether or not you use normally closed one.

Relay 1 is only to see the presence of 220v supply. It has got contacts somewhere else to alert the engineers if 220v supply is absent due to any reason. Relay 2 actually does not control the pump directly. It controls some other relay which further controls the pump. I showed it like this for simplicity. You can see that there is no way shown to stop the the pump and also there is no hold on contact for the pump to run continuously when push button is pressed and released. Our question is-what made the relay 2 to energize without pressing the switch
But... when the switch is closed relay 2 is always energized - except when you push both at the same time !?
I guess this is too simplified drawing to explain phenomenon. Since actual function of switches shown (and not shown) is not visible (on/off or push button) it is impossible to find out reason asked. Believe me, some of us can read even more complicated circuit diagrams...
I assume that the push-buttons are rated for the voltage applied or higher. Otherwise arcing is possible and therefore causing a partial path to the relay and causing the chattering.
Also, without the complete diagram, it is difficult to tell for sure so this is entirely a SWAG. Could there be a source of CEMF causing the coil to be partially energized and causing the chattering?
