Peace could be obtained in a war zone like South Sudan through multi-layered diplomacy supported by stick and carrot approaches over a period of time. This implies stopping the flow of small and light weapons to non-state actors and civilians who create armed movements at will. Another way is for the political class to adopt new attitudes that favour concession and compromise in dialogue.
It needs a post-war peacebuilding process with the participation of international actors. The process should inclusively consider all the stakeholders affected by the war. It is necessary to conduct proper DDR, resettlement, reconstruction and development in the affected area. One of the important aspects is the post-war reconciliation process. If this process successful it is possible to reach a sustainable peace.
Sustainable peace can be obtained in South Sudan through the use of proper and effective diplomatic channels and Peace building efforts that are a bottom up approach where the South Sudanese citizens are able to air their grievances freely and possibly come up with solutions that will promote sustainable peace in the state; this will in turn help in processes like the DDR and SSR.
